A win for 150 young carers with the Commonwealth Government announcing an additional $450,000 to provide another 150 bursaries on top of the 150 already delivered in the 2014-15 budget.

The Young Carer Bursary Programme allows carers up to 25 years old who look after a person with a disability, with physical or mental health issues, or older people in need of help; to continue study or vocational training. In Australia, there are more than 300,000 young people who take on a carer role with many coming from Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Carers Australia will support the delivery of the bursaries with an additional $50,000 funding from the Commonwealth Government.
