Description: |
A statewide program with a range of support options and recreational opportunities for primary and secondary Young Carers. The Young Carer Project supports young people who have extraordinary caring responsibilities which may include assisting with household chores, meal preparation, administering medication, staying home to, ‘keep an eye on someone’, providing emotional support, assisting with personal care or mobility, translating and interpreting, caring for other relatives (often younger siblings) and/or providing financial support.
A large component of the young carer program is week long camps held in the school holidays. Camps are based on a peer support and recreation model whereby young carer’s experiences of loneliness are diminished due to the opportunities that present to make new friends, create great memories & laughter and participate in fun filled activities.
The camps provide young carers aged between 8-18 with a break that focuses on, chilling out, having fun and making friends.
The camp assists in reducing isolation as it provides an opportunity for increased understanding from each other as young carers may share similar experiences. |
