Description: |
A support program running over an eight week period on one evening a week for 1.5 hrs. Both a Social
Worker and an Occupational Therapist conduct the program. Emphasis
is placed upon building trust between siblings, learning how
to identify feelings and giving these feelings positive expression,
and cultivating coping skills to take back to the family context.
An example of one activity is the use of strength cards with
which siblings are encouraged to affirm one another's and
their own special qualities. Parents are visited by the Social
Worker prior to the commencement of the program to discuss
the program content and to answer family questions. The program
exists for two age groups:Group 1 is for siblings, co-ed, ages 9 and 10 years. Group 2 is for siblings, co-ed ages 11 and 12 years and is generally run once a year. The
program is not disability specific. While there are no fees
for the sibling program, Noah's Ark membership fees do apply
for access to the wide range of Noah's Ark support, including
sibling support. The Noah's Ark membership fees can be paid
per term. It is advisable to contact Noah's Ark Bendigo directly
for further information.
