Siblings
A Sib or Sibling is someone who has a brother or sister with a disability or chronic illness. Since April 2002, our Association has been working to develop resources to both support Sibs directly, and to assist parents in supporting their own Sibs.
For hard copies of any of our Sibs resources contact the Association office on 03 9818 2000, freecall 1800 654 013 (rural callers) or mail@acd.org.au
Our Sibs resources include:
Growing Together: A parent guide to supporting siblings of children with a disability
The Growing Together booklet is written for parents and highlights the experiences of siblings growing up with a brother or sister with a disability as well as strategies for parents to support siblings.
Sib Sheets
The Sib Sheets provide a first port of call for adolescent Sibs, parents and service providers wanting to find out more about common issues and support for Sibs.
Sibling Program Directory
The Directory is an online resource that lists programs and camps for Sibs across Victoria and includes a general description of the program, cost and eligibility criteria.
Headspace Ideas
Headspace ideas includes suggestions on how to support Sibs to get some headspace from their responsibilities as a Sib.
Sibs Websites at www.sibs.org.au
This host website contains both Siblink (a website for primary aged Sibs) and Your Shout (a site created BY adolescent Sibs FOR adolescent SIBS). Both sites encourage Sibs to share their stories and tips on living a balanced lifestyle.
Sibs Links
Useful links related to the Sib experience, including lists of books and films that feature Sibs.
