Siblings

SIBS logo

A Sib or Sibling is someone who has a brother or sister with a disability or chronic illness. Since April 2002, our Association has been working to develop resources to both support Sibs directly, and to assist parents in supporting their own Sibs.

For hard copies of any of our Sibs resources contact the Association office on 03 9818 2000, freecall 1800 654 013 (rural callers) or mail@acd.org.au

Our Sibs resources include:

•  Sib Fact Sheets
The Sib Fact Sheets provide a first port of call for adolescent Sibs, parents and service providers wanting to find out more about common issues and support for Sibs. Thanks to the RACV Foundation and the Myer Foundation for their generous support in the creation of these Fact Sheets.

•  Supporting Siblings Booklet
Supporting Siblings was written as a resource for parents and outlines common sibling responses from early childhood through to adolescence as well as strategies that promote coping and resilience in Sibs.

•  Sibling Program Directory
The Directory is an online resource that lists programs and camps for Sibs across Victoria and includes a general description of the program, cost and eligibility criteria.

•  Headspace Ideas
Headspace Ideas includes suggestions on how to support Sibs to get some headspace from their responsibilities as a Sib.

•  Sibs Websites at www.sibs.org.au
This host website contains both Siblink (a website for primary aged Sibs) and Your Shout (a site created BY adolescent Sibs FOR adolescent SIBS). Both sites encourage Sibs to share their stories and tips on living a balanced lifestyle.

•  Sibs Links
Useful links related to the Sib experience, including lists of books and films that feature Sibs.

For more information contact our Siblings Worker, Gemma Holleran, at the Association office on 03 9818 2000, freecall 1800 654 013 (rural callers) or by email sibs@acd.org.au .
