Inclusive Classroom School Resource

Introduction

Each year teachers are faced with a classroom of eager new students, each with their own personalities, abilities and needs. If you have a student with a disability in your class, you will need quick access to information about supporting students with a disability at school.

Parents of children with a disability have the same hopes and dreams for their children as other parents. This includes opportunities for their child to learn and achieve to the best of their potential, to be safe, and to experience acceptance and friendship.

The Inclusive Classroom School Resource has been developed to enhance teacher engagement with students with a disability through partnerships with parents, increased understanding of family perspectives, practical tips and information.

While this resource has been written for teachers in Victorian government primary schools, it may also be of interest to teachers and school staff in other educational settings.

The Inclusive Classroom School Resource is informed by the direct experiences of parents of children with a disability and was developed in consultation with teachers and schools.

A promotional poster and bookmark are available on request from the Association office by phoning 03 9818 2000 or 1800 654 013 (rural callers) or by email to mail@acd.org.au

The Inclusive Classroom School Resource was published in 2010 by the Association for Children with a Disability with support from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
