State Budget

The Victorian State Budget for 2008-09 was released on 6 May 2008. As part of the State Budget announcements the latest version of the Victorian Government's social action plan to reduce disadvantage, A Fairer Victoria, was also released.

While this year's State Budget saw a strong focus on both disability and early years support, we would have liked to have seen a greater increase in funding for the Victorian Aids and Equipment Program and supported accommodation.

As highlighted in the Victorian Auditor-General's Report: Accommodation for People with a Disability, urgent new investment is required so that young adults with a disability and their families can plan for normal life transitions. We will continue to urge the Victorian Government to address this issue in their negotiations around the Commonwealth State Territory Disability Agreement (CSTDA).
