Aids and Equipment
The Aids and Equipment Program in Victoria has basically operated the same way for more than 20 years and the aim of the re-development reported in Autumn 2009 NoticeBoard, has been to improve the way people with a disability receive the aids and equipment they need.
The new program due to begin in late 2010 will be delivered through:
• a single statewide service
• a single point of entry with one
phone number and one email
• a single statewide waiting list
• a new function of clinical advisors,
who will provide clinical expertise
(including specialist children’s
clinical advisor)
The new program will have three components:
1. Aids and Equipment (including
aids and equipment for children)
2. Domiciliary Oxygen
3. Continence Aids
To support the new program, a custom built web based IT system called ASSIST (Assistive Technology Management System) will replace the old system and will operate from March 2010.
ASSIST will provide a single database of people and equipment and consolidate waiting lists throughout Victoria. The changeover to ASSIST will be an internal process and should not affect those using the program.
